Celebrating a year of the Blogging Community of Practice

This month’s we are celebrating a whole year of blogging as our Blogging Community of Practice turns 1!

Join us for the holiday special meet up on Wednesday, December 17 at 12 EST as we come together and reflect on a year of blogging, sharing practice and supporting each other to find and make our voice heard on the open web.

A big thank you to...

All our contributors!

Over 700 blog posts have been shared via the community RSS feed in Discord alone over the course of the year, and that is a LOT of blogging and practice shared.

Over the course of the year our community has actively engaged in activities and events, such as Open Education Week, and we have shared regular updates in... you guessed it... more blog posts: 17 community blog posts and 5 guest blog posts have been published in 2025 on the Reclaim Blog

Our guest bloggers!

It's been a lot of fun hearing new voices on the blog, so we want to say a special thank you to all our guest bloggers of 2025:

Thank you also to all our speakers and participants!

With monthly events happening from launching the ABC of Blogging (always be commenting) at the start of the year, to hands on sessions about getting started with Ghost for blogging and open practice blogging at events and conferences to sessions led by special guests including Bonnie Stewart and Alan Levine, we have had a blast.

Blog-A-Thon by Visual Thinkery

All of this events activity led to one of the absolute highlights of the year: 12 hours of blogging happened during the Reclaim Open Blog-A-Thon and over 500 comments were shared in total via the conference blog. And a shout out to Bryan Mathers who beautifully captured the contributions of the day in this visual thinkery :)

A year "On Writing"

One of the most popular outputs of the community this year has been the "On Writing" series. “On Writing” is a video podcast hosted by Jim Groom and Team Reclaim and these conversations about writing and blogging are an important part of stimulating the conversations we are hoping to foster. Over the year we have hosted many special guest bloggers and writers including Audrey Watters, Kine Lane, Mike Caulfield, Amy Collier, Tom Woodward, Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Adam Croom, Bryan Alexander, Chris Long, Kate Bowles, Lee Skallerup Bessette, Tim Klapdor, Martin Weller and Bonnie Stewart.

To everyone who's contributed in 2025 #blogging4life - thank you!

As the main host of the series, Jim Groom did get to talk a lot about blogging this year, which didn't stop him from also publishing his own posts at a record rate. Jim's bavatuesdays blog turns 20 (!) this month! So help us celebrate this superhero of the blog-o-sphere by reading, commenting and sharing #4life.

Help us plan for 2026

As we reflect on and wind down activities, we want to hear from you to help us shape our events and community activities for the coming year. If you have topics, speaker suggestions or formats you'd like us to feature, get in touch and let us know.

We've had fantastic feedback following the inaugural student showcase, so that is already on the roadmap for 2026, and we are excited to involve more student voices and grow the showcase further.
