Scaling up with Wordpress Multisite

A fresh look at Wordpress Multisite.

Scaling up with Wordpress Multisite

A regular inquiry we get from institutions is if they can offload their WordPress Multisite (WPMS) as they seek to get out of the business of hosting on campus. WPMS allows you to create and manage a network of WordPress sites from a single WordPress dashboard. Turns out WPMS is our specialty, and we run some of the oldest and largest instances in all of higher ed.

💡
We offer hosting across multiple geographical locations including in the US, UK, Europe and Canada. So if you are looking to move your data, get in touch with our Support Team. We're happy to help.

Why WordPress Multisite (WPMS)?

There are many advantages to WPMS, including having the ability to make decisions on what themes and plugins are available, and to add/update themes and plugins across the network from a single dashboard.  It's also easier to navigate between many different WordPress sites without needing additional site credentials or cPanel access. Super admins have control over what plugins are activated by default and can customize the signup process to get the user information you need. Not to mention we can ensure your instance is single sign-on ready, making sign-up both self-service and secure.

While there are plenty of advantages, there are also enough challenges that make it important to think carefully about your decision to embark on the Multisite path and this is where our team can help. For example, what themes and plugins do other schools use by default when they are getting up and running? Are there ways to pre-populate specific blog templates to make it easier for a community to get up and running? The dreaded choice(s) surrounding classic editor versus Gutenberg Blocks versus Full Site Editing? —we feel your pain. These are all questions and concerns the team at Reclaim Hosting can help you think through.

If this is something your school is considering, we can help you migrate to a performant, scalable infrastructure that allows you to focus on the application while we worry about the infrastructure.
